My dreams have come true

My twin sister and I began to knit and crochet very early in life. All the women in our family plus our Uncle Harold knitted baby sweaters and blankets. I remember a very large white bed cover that my mother crocheted. I think it was the popcorn stitch she used. Since Barbie doll clothes were not created yet, I fashioned knitted coats and such for my dolls. Years later, all the knitting and crocheting has helped me to fullfill a dream that I had a couple of years ago, and that was to knit for people in need. I along with my twin sister and friends, founded a knitting group on Long Island. We have created beautiful hats, scarves, mittens, lap blankets, preemie caps and preemie blankets, pink hats for Breast Cancer Survivors and have donated them to Women's Shelters, Hospice, Hospitals, Food Distribution Centers and other worthwhile organizations.
Our latest endeavor has truly touched our hearts. We have started a knitting circle group at Gurwin Jewish Geriatric Center in Commack. We are working with some of the residents in reteaching these wonderful ladies to knit and crochet again. Most have done knitting and crocheting in the past but have not done so for many years. What a rewarding experience it has turned out to be. We meet once a month in addition to working on our projects at home. We are doing lap blankets for the residence, and they will be given as a birthday gift when the time comes to celebrate.
