Knitting, Crochet, Knitting
Created By: Janet Simpson
I learned to knit when I was in my twenties and tackled some difficult patterns, my first real sucess was in making a sweater for my husband. Soon after I finished the project I developed
Old Arthur in my shoulders. So sad, was I, no more knitting, to soothe the day. We have 4 wonderful children but some days needed soothing more than others and I found great pride and consolation in making items from "string" as my little one called the yarn. A friend suggested that I try crochet and it worked. For many years I crocheted afghans, sweaters, etc. I belong to a club of friends who meet one night a month. We help one another over the humps and enjoy each others company. About ten years ago I moved to Oldham Co., from Jefferson Co., Kentucky and found the U of K has an extension office here with a group of knitters, I decided to give it a shot. I have found I can inter-mix knitting and crochet without the discomfort I used to have. One art seems to give the other a rest.
I am thrilled to be able to make gifts for friends and loved ones as well as prayer shawls through our church, Immaculate Conception in LaGrange, Kentucky.
