Don't bother Mommy, she's knitting.
Created By: Sara Davis
I have four children, and the oldest one is eight. I also sit for another little one during the school year. As a result, I am very familiar with stress. After my last one was born, I had to find something to release stress that wasn't as fattening as chocolate.
My grandma has always been crafting, cross stitching and sewing. I am fortunate enough that my mom passed down what she learned from her. Unfortunately, my mom never could "get" crocheting and knitting. So I had to teach myself. I started with a kit that came with a DVD, and knit and pulled apart a poncho several times until I finally got it right. I started watching knitting shows and found out I was knitting into the back of all the stitches because of the camera angle on the DVD. I now can knit the right way although I knit in my own blend of English and Continental style. My knitting style may not be pretty, but the projects I make are.
I enjoy making baby projects, because I get bored easily. I need instant gratification! A lot of the projects I chose to make don't require specific sizes so I cheat and skip the swatch- I HATE swatches! I'm also fortunate to have so many little ones running around because if my finished project doesn't fit one, it will fit someone else! My daughter has the best dressed baby dolls in town, too.
My husband is supportive, although he does roll his eyes when I say I'm going to the store because I need more yarn. I have discovered new ways to store my collection, and I'm sure he has no idea exactly how much yarn I really have. I'm going to make sure he never knows, too.
Yes, knitting and crocheting keeps me sane, and it's really hard to snack on junk food while you've got yarn and needles in your hands.
