Once upon a time, when I was three...
Created By: Gael Golden
I spent a lot of weekends with my paternal grandparents, no doubt to give my mother some relief once the second girl came along. But my grandmother told me that, when I was 3, she taught me to crochet. The first and perhaps only item I crocheted was a very sloppy bookmark of white thread and it had a lumpy tassel on the end. I still have it. She taught me other crafts: sewing, cross stitch, painting. My skill at crochet has improved drastically and I now teach a beginner class at the Heritage Senior Activity Center in Irving, Texas. You have to be 50 to join and since the craft is good exercise for stiff hands, they enjoy learning and the fellowship of other very active students.
I love crochet because it travels well, and is a good conversation starter.Almost everyone has a mother or grandmother that could crochet.
