Knitting Therapy
I was in a car accident in 2004. After the accident I had numbnees and loss of fine motor control in my hands, along with pain throughout the rest of my body. After four rounds of physical therapy the conclusion was that i would not regain the fine motor skills in my hands. This left me devistated because I could no longer do many of the crafts I used to love. That is how I discovered loom knitting. I was desperate for something to do on a long car ride our Thanksgiving so I decided to try the looms. I finished four projects that weekend and haven't put them down since. Knitting has given me back the happiness that the accident took away. Knitting relieves my depression over the pain I still face and ives me a sence of pride in my accomplishments that allows me to think of something besides what I can't do. Knitting is the best therapy I could have found. I even teach loom knitting now. I often teach others with handicaps. I hope to share the knitting therapy with as many others as possible.
