Knitting and Crocheting Back to Health

Since I was a teenager, I knew that the major components of a good self-esteem were the feelings of accomplishment and the knowledge that something beautiful you created was yours and a part of you. Also there is the feeling that there is something special within you that comes out in your craft.
As I became and adult and finished college and graduate school, I decided to become a psychotherapist. It was never a question in my mind that I would incorporate the arts and crafts into my clients' treatment. All of my clients who have decided to add this as a part of their treatment, have learned how to stop the rush of their life and the tug of anxiety and depression. Knitting and crocheting gives them.......and me, a point of meditation, a clearing of the old thoughts and a passageway for the new and positive. It has the ability to break-up the cycle of unhealthy thoughts and to being about healing.
