Mom
Created By: Adele Palmiotti
My mother lived in an assisted living home for about 6 mos. and when we sat and talked I wanted to do something with my hands instead of just staring at each other. So I went into a local yarn store and the owner so kindly sold me a skein of fun fur and told me to look on the label and I could knit a scarf. Well everytime I went to see Mom in the assisted living home, I had a scarf with me and soon not only did she and her friends ask me what I was doing but I had the staff asking me to teach them how to knit and crochet (I did both when I was a teenager). We all soon became owners of scarves in various styles, colors and yarns. Everyone was asking me to show them how to knit or crochet or make them a scarf.
Three years down the line, Mom passed away and I'm still teaching knitting and crochetting in an assisted living home near my house and I have 2 loyal fans who actually teach me a thing or two, but everytime I sit with my new friends, I'm always reminded of Mom. By the way, she hated the fun fur because she thought it was itchy, but I'm probably 20 scarves down the line and everyone I make them for love them.
Thank you.
