I Dreamed of Crocheting

When my children were young I would dream of crocheting. I did sew clothes but I really, really, wanted to crochet and didn't have anyone I knew to teach me or money to take a course. So one day I went to the local 5 & 10 (That will tell you a little about my age)I was 30 yrs old, and bought myself a little booklet on How to Crochet, Knit, Embroder and Tatting. It cost me 29 cents. Then I bought one crochet hook and one skein of yarn. While my husband and I talked after dinner and the boys then 4 and 6 played, I taught myself how to crochet. It gave me so much confidence and a great feeling of accomplistment. 35 years later we moved to a new town and state. My husband tried to get me to go to the local yarn shop and sign up for classes in Knitting. I was too timid to do so. I was crocheting clothes for Barbie doll. I didn't learn to knit until my youngest granddaughter want me to knit a sweater for her Barbie doll. Then I got brave and went to the yarn shop. What a delight they were there. I not only learned how to knit but found out they had a group that meet every week to knit and share stories and help each other. I really needed them as I wasn't making friends I just didn't know anyone and now I was able to make friends. Knitting and crochet has recently saved my health as my husband recently found out he had cancer. Knitting and crochet helped me through his surgery and all the treatments and dozens of doctor's visit sense then. I have dozen of knitting & crochet frends now and fit into the community.
