When DIDN'T I know how to knit?
Created By: Marie George
I guess my story begins with my mother, who was trained as a fiber artist in Norway. She taught me to knit, crochet and embroider before I was 6 years old. It seems I have always been able to knit. I made items for my children as they grew, and made gifts for friends. The skill took on a new meaning for me after January 2006 though, when I was diagnosed with B cell follicular non-Hodgkins lymphoma.
I was given a wig and I purchased a couple, but they were uncomfortable. Then St. Vincent's New Outlook in Little Rock, Arkansas, gave me a fluffy blue hat! It was so comfortable, but a bit too small. I talked to them, and they gave me the pattern, which turned out to be the Chemo Cap from Lion Brand Yarn!!
I have at least 23 in different colors that I love wearing. I have also made 50-70 hats for others. Everyone loves the hats and I have given so many away.
I have founded a cancer ministry. I will continue to make the hats for others as long as I am able. I thank Lion Brand Yarn for having the pattern available, and I tell everyone about the website so they find it for themselves. Believe me, the hats are all over the country and some foreign places too, because I met people from all over the world at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX, and those folks love the hats too.
Thank you again Lion Brand Yarn.
