Crochet for Cancer
Created By: Jennie Handt
Last year I was diagnosed with breast cancer, and my mom came out to help me around the house after my surgery. She was crocheting potholders for Eastern Star, and I decided to take it up again. It had been nearly 25 years since I last held a hook. Mom and I went to the local crafts store and picked up a few hooks, some yarn and a book on caps. I got started making caps for myself for when I lost my hair to chemo, but to my surprise, I was to have radiation first! I made a cap for every day of radiation treatment, 33 in all, and on the last day I took them all to the American Cancer Society to hand out to anyone needing them. It was a wonderful feeling to be able to help out others. I did end up having chemo also, and all winter I had the most stylish bald head!
