When one of my best friends was about to become a new grandmother, a very special afghan was needed to commemorate the occasion! My friend already had a handmade quilt in progress, so I coordinated the colors of the yarn with the swatches of fabric. Done in a soft, lacy pattern for the base (but dense enough so little fingers wouldn't get entangled), I added a similar, flat lace border and embellished it with 3-D flowers to make a one-of-a-kind "girly" design.
