Created By: Edejer Eilene
In December of 2003, my dear son Maximilian was born. It was a very difficult pregnancy and he was daignosed with a very rare heart condition. My mother had taught me how to crochet while I was pregnant and it became a means of staying focused and sometimes distracted during the 10 months Max was in the hospital. His heart condition along with all the other complications that arose were too much for Max and he died in November of 2004. As a part of my grief, I needed to keep myself occupied and shortly after, I taught myself how to knit. As I learned, my projects became more complicated and the mere act of knitting became more therapeutic. The act of creating in the midst of my loss was very powerful for me. Of course, many have benefited from my knitting - my husband, relatives and friends have received something handmade in the past few years. I have even taught my sister and few friends to knit. To me, knitting and crocheting are more than hobbies...it has become an important part of my life - a creative outlet and a method of coping with whatever life may give me.
