38 Years of Crocheting
Created By: Bonnie Scriba
Wow! I can't believe I have been at it so long. I learned to Crochet in college (the one lasting thing I learned!) During the following summer, I attended Weight Watchers, where I met Sally, who saw me crocheting. I taught her to crochet, interesting because I am left handed, and we became fast friends. She was one of my bridesmaids when I was married the day after Christmas 1970.
Now speed forward in time. In 2001 I participated in my first Breast Cancer 3 Day 60 Mile Walk. I live in the Seattle area, and had lost touch with Sally years ago. She lives in New Hampshire, as do my parents. The day before the Walk started, I received a package from Sally! My Mom had called her to tell her about the 3 Day, as Sally was a breast cancer survivor!
Little did I realize what an effect that event would have on my life. I have continued to fundraise for breast cancer, this year will be my 5th 3 Day, and Sally is still one of my dearest supportors. But back to crocheting. In my spare time I still crochet. In fact I have made 5 baby blankets since January. A friend at work introduced me to Lion Brand yarns last year, and when I am not making baby blankets, I crochet hats to donate to women who have lost their hair due to chemo therapy!
