Captive Audience Crocheting
Created By: Elaine Taylor
Over 20 years ago, I was the only one available to take my mother-in-law back and forth to the hospital two times a day to visit her husband. Mom asked if I wanted to learn how to crochet, so in between trips to the hospital, she taught me how to crochet. I lived out of state so I was a "captive" audience and Mom was always right there whenever I had a question.
She had just finished a tablecloth using No. 30 crochet thread, so that's where she started me. It took me 7 years to finish that tablecloth. I crocheted everywhere -- at work on my lunch hour, in the car, at home in the evenings. Since then, I have crocheted three more tablecloths (for each of my sons when they got married) and christening gowns for each of the familes when the smartest, most beautiful grandchildren in the world were born.
Two years ago, I crocheted curtains for my guest bedroom and I am now in the process of crocheting yet another tablecloth for a 5-year old granddaughter (in between doing other short-term projects).
