How Crochet ing Changed My Life
Created By: Debbie DeMers
Dear Lionbrand,
Many years ago I was a heavy smoker. I now know that I was self-medicating in some respects, as, I've since learned that I have undiagnosed Attention Deficit Disorder.
Many years ago I had mentioned at my job that I wanted to quit smoking. So, another employee taught me how to crochet. It started with a dishcloth. Well, I quit smoking. After many afghans, doilies, coasters, outfits for dolls and well into my 50's, I've also realized that crochet is also the answer to the symptoms I contend with when it comes to Attention Deficit Disorder.
Most people appreciate and understand why I love it so much. Now, as an Orton-Gillingham Reading and Writing Tutor, I offer to teach my students (who may also have ADD or like differences) lessons in crochet. They find it very relaxing and they are creating at the same time.
When I go to my grave; I'll be going with a crochet hook in my hand; I never leave home without it.
Sincerely, Deborah J. DeMers
