Architecture & Knitting

I used to be content with knitting simple patterns (sweaters, afghans, scarves), not really thinking about form, design or color, just following the pattern . However, about 14 years ago I started working for an architect firm where I am surrounded by designers, color and texture 40 hours a week, which has inspired me to look beyond the possibilities of what can be created with a pair of needles and a bit of fiber. I now look at buildings and think about how I could recreate a scaled down model with needles and yarn, using different stitches to recreate the look of marble, brick, stone, etc. I get excited when my favorite knitting magazines are delivered to read about what other people are doing with this art and have been inspired to starting my own business of custom design and hand knitting.
