Crochet-A Gift of a Lifetime
Created By: Wendy Stevens
When I was little, I lived with my dear grandmother, Mary Passmore, on a dairy farm in Clearfield County, Pennsylvania. We lived in a beautiful valley far from the city. To pass the time, she taught me how to crochet. At first I made long, long chains. Then I moved onto to other things. We spent many hours sitting on her porch crocheting and talking and on rainy days, it was a true godsend. I learned all about yarns, stitches, and the wonderful feeling one gets when they work with their hands. At the time, I was unaware that we didn't have much money, because we were always making things for the less fortunate! Indeed, I was one of the richest children in the world to have such a wonderful sharing grandmother who was always ready to help others with anything that she had. Today, I try to carry on that legacy with everyone around me. My love of crocheting, knitting and now looming has led me to experiences such as new friendships, fun, and a great feeling of satisfaction whenever I get to be the teacher. I thank God every day for giving me such a wonderful, talented grandmother. I wasn't aware as that little girl that she had opened a beautiful world to me that I would treasure all of my life.
