Language lesson

I know all of three words in German and two of them are swear words, 12 words on French two of them are cuss words, 3 of Polish, all of them curse words, Italian, other than those on Pasta sauce jars, no, sign language, short hand, rune stones, picto-graphs, sports, zip...nothing, I know none of that. I had teenagers at one time, I found baby talk more understandable, dog speak, cat talk, lamb speech, I understand...but knitting, that is a language and a universal one and one that has been around for generations. I can look at a knitting pattern and hum the notes in my brain, I figure them out while sleeping and sometimes correct them during Dr. Phil or Oprah. I actually enjoy sitting down with knitter who are open and frank about their joys and sadnesses, knitting for sick friends, a new baby, a wedding, a farewell gift, a token of love for an out going college student, or just for the challenge of a new lace pattern. Since we raise sheep and spin and weave in our house, I love to get together and talk about the price of hay, new lambs, wool crops, of grounded things...no sports, no politics, no "who had the chochkees to wear what to the "thing" the other night", the sweater you see emerging from a fleece still on an animal, the sale on yarn at the local discount store, all things important to life, spoken though a breathable language, tied to many generations with love and silk ribbons...knitting!
