Seven months pregnant with my first child I was eager to learn to knit. I was so excited at the thought of making cute little baby things for my little one. My mother-in-law and I visited a local yarn shop to only discover this would definitely be an addicting hobby. The yarn was so beautiful and the possibilities endless. We took a class and began knitting dozens of scarves- a beginner's favorite. I even knit a baby scarf for my sweet baby boy who would be arriving in just a few short months, or so I thought. I was 32 weeks pregnant when our doctor gave my husband and I the terrible news. We knew that our lives would never again be the same. Our baby had died. Before leaving the hospital we were given special keepsakes. Mothers, who had also lost children, handmade a baby blanket, a sweet layette, one even made a teddy bear so I wouldn't have to go home with empty arms. I have treasured those items so much I wanted to do something to give back. I began knitting little baby booties to donate to the hospital to give to other families like mine. I know there will be hard days ahead but maybe these little booties will give them something to always remember their little one by. We now have a beautiful healthy baby boy, James, who is 5 months old. He has been such a blessing to us and we are thankful for him everyday.
