Twenty-Six Years of Crocheting...and Loving It!
Created By: Wilma Walsh
In the fall of 1980, I learned how to crochet by taking a 10-week course at a local adult-ed class. I was expecting our son in January of 1981 and I wanted to crochet an afghan for him. At that time, I didn't know whether I was having a girl or a boy, though. The instructor permitted me to crochet the afghan, although the rest of the class was making Christmas items. Over the next twenty-six years, I have made countless afghans, pillows, potholders, and various other items. Now, I'm really fired up with my yarn! I'm going to be a grandmother for the first time in September, 2007! Since January of this year, I have already made two afghans, a hooded blanket, and a layette set consisting of a sweater, cap, and booties! I'm in the middle of making a baby catch-all, which will hang on the baby's door and hold the items necessary to take care of their bundle of joy when changing diapers, etc. It will have several pockets to hold baby powder, lotion, toys, etc. I'm also endeavoring to make stuffed animals. I started a yellow duckie last week.
Crocheting is such a big part of my life! I am a member of our church's newly-formed knitting circle, named "In Stitches". We meet every other week, although I have suggested that we start meeting every week, since we have so much fun!
Over the years, family and friends have benefited from my passion. It really makes me feel good when I'm invited to their homes and I see that they're still displaying and using my gifts! Crocheting is a rewarding hobby, giving me hours and hours of satisfaction!
