I am in a situation that I never dreamed I would...
Created By: Colleen Smith
I am in a situation that I never dreamed I would be in. My husband and I moved to SC in Fall 2005. He has been unable to find a job since our move. We have been married for 36 years and this is the first time he has ever been without a job. I worked for about a year but when he still didn't have a job, we had to give up our apartment. We had made good friends at the church we attend here and one of the families invited us to stay with them while Mike continued his job search. This has been quite a blessing.
However, even though we have use of the whole downstairs, we are pretty much stuck in the bedroom that they have let us use. I picked up knitting again because (1) I had no money for Christmas gifts this year so I knitted about 40 scarves for gifts. Also, (2) knitting has helped me keep my sanity in this crazy place we find ourselves now.
The great thing about giving the scarves was that people really appreciate them, especially at Christmas time when the weather is cold. See, most of my family is still in Ohio.
Plus, knowing that we are blessed to have a home with our friends, it made me feel really good to be able to use some of my stashed yarn to make items to help others who are less fortunate to keep warm. I was able to donate items through a Yahoo group that was taking the donations and distributing them.
Right now, I have my first grandchild coming and I have in my stash some of Lion Brand's Pound of Love yarns and look forward to making items for him/or her.
So, maybe knitting didn't actually change my life but it sure has helped me during a rough spot in my life.
