A Friend for Life

Being a single mother is hard enough and those that are in the same boat as me understand. I work, I go home, I spend my time with my son. Money is tight and there is just no time for socializing even if there was who would I socialize with, all those friends are non existant when they have no kids. I'm not bemoaning my life because my son is wonderful I love him to pieces. But being the only adult gets lonely. That's when my aunt introduced me to knitting. At first I admit I was just doing it to have something to do, but slowly after I completed my first dishcloth, then my scarves everything started to click I was actually accomplishing something and it filled me with a sense of rightness. I admit I was addicted after my first felted purse. Money is still tight but you know what? I still find that cheap ball of yarn on clearance that I can work with. I knit late at night when my son is asleep or when I have free time during the day. I find myself more relaxed I'm not in a rush all day trying to do a hundred things at once. I'm content thats the best way to say what knitting has done. I feel content late at night by myself with a pair of needles clicking in my hand all my worries are pushed away. I'm content because knitting has become a great friend to me it has also introduced actual human friends *laughing* I am able to go to a knitting group where I meet other like minded souls turning out beautiful hand knits. Even my son tags along and behaves himself. So to me knitting is a forever friend when I am old and grey and sitting in my rocker my constant companion will be my knitting. Oh before I forget so far I've been knitting for 8 years and I still find new things to learn. I have been published for a sweater and my current love is designing patterns. Knitting is a friend that definately gives back.
