Knitting and crocheting to recovery
Created By: Arlene King
I had hip replacement surgery in September 2006 at the relatively young age of 57. Due to unusual nerve damage during surgery I am having a very delayed recovery and am still using a walker to get around. I am used to working every day and now I was thrown into sitting around much of the time. I started knitting and crocheting alot because I was getting bored.
I have given scarves, hats, and baby blankets to my friends who have faithfully helped me during these 6 months and continue to be there for me. I have also donated items to local fundraisers and the linus project. All of this has helped me keep my sanity and my focus on what I can do rather than what I cannot. I am also reminded that I get more by giving to others as depression has been warded off by activity. I am eternally grateful to my mother and a neighbor who taught me these life skills as a child.
