Knitting For Nursing Homes
Created By: Lynne Tognoli
My father had to go to a nursing home after he fell and fractured his hip while the hip was repairing itself.
So while visiting him I noticed all the patients who were in wheelchairs and complained of being cold.
My neighbors husband went to a nursing home in July and we decided to help the patients in wheelchairs by knitting them lap afghans that are place on their laps while sitting and covers their legs without interfering with the movement of the wheelchairs. She also knitted them warm hats to keep their heads warm. I knitted over 100 to where my father was and she knitted about 100 for the nursing home where her husband is also. That was in 2006. We are now doing a different nursing home in our area. Seeing the smiles on their faces at Christmas when they were given the lap afghans and the knitted hats was all that I needed. Now they call us by name and talk to us when ever we come to visit. It felt so good to do for other people who were in need and see the happiness it brought to them.
I also knitted afghans for waitresses at two restrants in our area to thank them for the wonderful way they treat their customers I got hugs from them I made about 3 dozens in total for the waitresses and waiters. What a great feeling this has been. Doing for others and not for yourself.
