Don't Smoke -- Knit!
Created By: Celia Kaye Peters

Needlework of all kinds has been in my life my whole life. One grandmother was a master crochet artist, the other a seamstress/tailor, and everything my mother touched was “perfect” (I’m serious!). I dabbled in all of it, mastered none, but found my greatest pleasure looking through craft magazines and the Herrschner’s catalogue. I would dream about projects, but had a very hard time finishing.

Knitting and crocheting changed my life when I finally quit smoking. I picked up a huge afghan I had been working on for years, and began to work feverishly to finish, using my “urge” to smoke as a driving force to stay with it. I did finish, and immediately started a new project, grabbing my yarn and needles whenever I wanted to smoke. Not only did it work, I found I couldn’t stop – knitting that is! More importantly, I didn’t want to stop. I was successful in getting rid of cigarettes FOREVER, and was also successful in learning how to finish projects. I have no idea how many scarves, caps and afghans I've made by now.

Knitting and crocheting truly, literally have helped save my life. I now have two Lion Brand kits going, the Glorious Colors blanket and a Northern Lights scarf, and I love them both. I don’t have to rack my brain to figure out Christmas presents for family – everyone gets something warm and hand made, and I get to be healthier and happier than ever! It’s a win-win! Thanks for the chance to share my story!
