one dollar start
Created By: Linda Hale
I started knitting about one year ago, when Target started selling all kinds of yarn and knitting needles at a low price. I decided I could start a new hobby, and with the additional help of some library books, I learned to cast on and then complete a scarf and first sweater.
A neighbor came by, and the gift of some needles, two skeins of yarn, and some copies of knitting instructions got her started knitting a scarf for a walking companion of hers.
My experiences also helped a stepdaughter get started, becuase I was able to describe the trials and pitfalls of learning how to knit, like initially uncoordinated fingers, etc...
Finally, knitting improved my hand strength for weightlifting, golf, and tennis. That was a huge surprise! I can actually lift free weights continuously for 1/2 hour now! Playing golf or tennis after being absent from the game for awhile isn't aproblem anymore. Who would've thought knitting could improve sports fitness?
