Peaceful Healing
Created By: BRENDA E HARDIEK

My Aunt Helen taught me to crochet in 1979. As a single mother of three, I had little time to work at my craft, but soon became pretty accurate. Five years later I had a back injury and had time to do some more. In 1986 and 1987 I had two spinal fusions and was in a back brace for the majority of 3 years. Had it not been for crochet, I would have lost my mind. I had always been out among people and worked since I was 18 yrs. old. It was very difficult to be alone so much of the time. My daughters had gone to live with their dad and my son moved away to work after high school. The difficulty of crocheting while lying flat on your back became surmountable. I would work for a while and rest, but never gave up. Now I have taught a non-credit class for a junior college in our area and am preparing to teach 2 more. I have now taught myself to knit--not good yet--but persevering as relentless as always. Now after breast cancer, it is even more precious to have these gifts. God has been so very good to me. Keep your faith and never lose your spirit.
