A long time ago
Created By: Mariea VanPraet
When I was 7 years old in Ireland, my brother got pneumonia - as one of 12 children we each had to take a turn at keeping him entertained as in those days you were not hospitalized (Drs. did house calls) when it was my turn I decided to teach my brother to knit - much to my surprise he caught on fast and in no time at all he was knitting fairisle pullovers (they were all the rage back then) when he grew up and married his wife could not knit - guess what he taught her how to knit and since then she has taught her children and her grand children how to knit. It always made me feel that my time and talent had not been wasted. It is such a pity that children of today are not taught the basics - I personally get a lot of fun out of knitting especially when I am watching TV I don't feel that I am wasting my time. I had been taught to knit by my grandmother (my Mum was always so busy with 12 children) when I was just 5 years of age and I taught all the children in my class at school also how to knit, I was the teacher's assistant and boy did I feel important!
