My name is Laurelen Whitney and I'm 13 years...

My name is Laurelen Whitney and I'm 13 years old. I began to knit about a month before I turned 12. I immediately fell in love with the craft, and began to knit every spare moment I had. The next summer, I began a charity knitting group called the Knitters for Christ and Community. It was not going very well for a while, but just this last January, I got about 7 new members that are all very excited about knitting to help the world around us. We just recently sent out our first projects to a charity called afghans for Afghans. Currently we are working on projects for an auction supporting the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. Last summer, I won first place in the Kentucky State Fair for a shawl I knitted that was my own pattern. Even though that was a great accomplishment, my number one goal is to serve the world around me and the God I love by knitting for the less fortunate. I cherish every moment I get to serve my community. Two years ago I would have never imagined that I would be doing this!
