I started knitting when I was 8 from my mom in...
Created By: Sheryl Bulgrin
I started knitting when I was 8 from my mom in the local 4-H club I loved the freedom to make things different from everyone else. I remember being so proud of my first knit sweater, only to have the judge mark it down because she thought brown was not attractive for women! What a letdown. I kept knitting off and on over the years. What has inspired me now is the stories my daughter shares about teaching her numerous friends in college and now in grad school. The kids (boys and girls) are so excited to show off their creations. They have found it to be a great stress reliever during finals! I am a member of the Junior Women's Club of Racine, WI. Our local schools were looking for scarves for some of the needier children. I volunteered to help with the knitting, but was very surprised to have over half our club turn out to learn to knit! I really feel that it is an art that keeps giving and is fun to introduce to others. You are always amazed at how far it will go!
