Knitting a Blessing!
Created By: Betty Kirk

My story begins with the delightful sound of my mother's knitting needles clicking rhythmically together as I sat beside her as a small child. I was absolutely fascinated with what she created with only two long needles and a couple of brightly colored balls of yarn! Even today as I sit and knit, the simple rhythmic sound of my own knitting needles clicking together with every stitch brings back loving memories that I will cherish forever.

Two years ago, I needed some extra money for Christmas. I happened to wander into a craft store and was drawn to the yarn department. When I saw the "fun fur" yarn, I was so excited, because I immediately envisioned beautiful scarves for the holiday season. Luckily, the store was having a sale, so I bought several skeins in different colors. As I began to knit, I actually started smiling because not only did it bring back loving memories with my mother, but the scarves were definitely "fun" and beautiful!

The Lord gave me a well developed right brain, so as I was knitting, I was already taking it to the next level. I started mixing colors like an artist's pallet! One of my favorites was red fun fur and orange fun fur which made up into a beautiful color scarf. I also made the collars and cuffs for some sweaters I had by mixing brown and black to get a "mink" color. I wore them to the office, and WOW the orders came flooding in! Not only did I brighten up our office, but co-workers bought several for gifts for their loved ones and friends! So, for a few hours of absolute "fun" and the pleasure of my own childhood memories, utilizing my God given talent with color, I made $300.00!

I made my mother and aunt some darling pink, ivory and black mini collars. The collars are great for older women because they provide some color around their faces and warmth around their precious necks.

I wore a beautiful double strand red scarf into a store while shopping and one of the women from Katrina happened to be there with her sponsor. She kept admiring my scarf and loved the beautiful, fluffy red yarn. The Lord placed it on my heart to give it to her and in doing so, made me feel that my talent brightened someone's day! In turn, it brightened my day!

I learned that the Lord always provides. He gives us the talent and resources to bring joy to others and to ourselves. I not only made the money I needed, but by utilizing my God given talent I brought joy to those around me. The scarves were colorful, fluffy and delightfully warm and so was my heart!
