Created By: Meredith Fossett
The first and only thing I had ever knit until a year ago was the famous mile-long boyfriend scarf that a good many of us knit in highschool. ( I graduated in 1972.) Then this past year, Louise, our volunteer at work invited me to her Prayer Shawll knitting group that meets every Wednesday evening. I thought I would be hopeless but I decided to attend thinking I would enjoy the company even if I didn't learn to knit. Well lo and behold a year later I have knit 5 Prayer Shawls, 6 scarfs that I gave as Christmas presents this past year, one hat and I fixed a collar on a baby sweater. I find myself knitting most every evening while I watching T.V. and I love the calming almost meditative rhythem as the yarn evolves into a finished gift. (I bought some knitters hand cream and I keep that with my knitting basket and only use that hand cream when I am knitting so that scent will always be associated with the calmness of knitting.) This past month I was overjoyed when one of my scarfs was given to the expectant daughter of one of the fellow prayer shawl knitters! AND as a bonus my neighbor, Sue, who had not knit in years has picked up her needles and started to knit again. I encourage anyone to pick up the needles and gather with friends, it's meditative, relaxing and just plain fun! My next challenge is to try socks! Meredith from Pemaquid
