A new found love

I discovered crochet at age 56. I am a business woman and the pressures of life, family finally got to me, and as a person always interested in the arts (I studied music professionally, sewed, crocheted briefly at age 20 -23, knitted when i was a teenager,dabbled in ceramics) I was looking for an art form that I could do whatever I felt like, whenever I felt like and was portable without huge investments. As a daughter of a tailor who grew up with fabrics ans fibers, I decided on crochet. I finally bought a computer a year ago and taught myself how to use it, and discovered that one can learn crochet from the internet! I labored over your basic instructions with sweat and tears until I perfected them and them bought journals, and between the web and magazines, I taught myself . I have in less than a year made 4 full afghans -the last being an original design, hats, scarves, shawls, purses for my 4 kids and 14 grandchildren - 18 projects in all, with my own ideas incorporated into most of them as I improved. I am amazed at my ability - I am in love with fibers and their diversity, I feel I have found a medium for self expression- with no responsibility to anyone- and if someone doesn't agree with my ideas I don't care! I am enthralled by what i can achieve and express with colors. I have discovered that crochet is like life. Somethings can be fixed- some things can't.But With perseverance and patience, and a lot of love poured into projects- I can achieve great heights. I finally realized too that one has to be calm, tense-free in order to create!(added bonus for a high strung person) I am even thinking of combining my love of crochet into a business
