The Sound of Knitting Needles
Created By: A Anita

What got me interested in knitting was seeing my mother knit mitts and socks for us, dad would come in from work, cold and tired, but as soon as he would see mom in front of the wood stove, I'd see him smile, and he'd talk for hours, and I'd listen, stories about his mom knitting in front of the wood stove, knitting tic tic tic rubbing against each needle. He said she was so fast, he'd see sparks coming from the needles, and that's why I decided too learn to knit. Mom tried to show me but I'm left handed, so in time I went to night lessons at a near by college, and she thought me how to knit. Mom and dad found pleasure in seeing me knit, I'd come to visit with my knitting projects and children in tow. After mom and dad passed away I lost interest in any sort of craft, including knitting. The children grow up and moved away. It's been 10 years since I knitted, and what got me started again, was an old black and white movie. There was an old woman in a log cabin knitting beside a wood stove in a old rockin chair, and my fingers started to ache for the want to knit, so I started going to a knitting class again, and I knit for my grandchildren. I enjoy going to the shop and knit with my new knitting friends, and of course seeing all that wool, makes me want to finish so I can start another project. I love to knit, you relax, you don't think about sorrows, and most of all I hear tic tic tic of my needles, and that my friend is why I knit.
