Adifferent knitting story
Created By: HAZEL PHELPS
I learned to knit at the age of 5 in England I remember sitting on the edge of the large kitchen table and having to wait while the grown-ups finished the hand of cards before I could get help on a dropped stitch all during the war years we knited I met my cute Yankee Sailor he was surprised when the girls took their knitting to the pictures (movies) when I was getting ready to come to America in 1950 I was told by an American lady you will not find patterns or wools (yarns) in america so I came with needles, baby patterns and needles she was right there were very few knitting patterns or nice yarns here while living in Dallas while my husband was attending S,M,U, I knitted some baby sweaters for Nireman Marcus, knitting has been so relaxing for me while in hospital with cancer I taught some of the patients how to knit, Our car laways had a knitting bag in it and their is always next to my chair I still make baby sweaters from patterns I brought to America over 56 years ago I have been so thrilled that in the last 5 years America has learnt to knit there are now needles in stores and great assortments of yarns I cannot imagine life if I could not knit beginning to get a little stiff now I am over 75 but still do a few rows every day
