A Ball of Yarn and a Pair of Needles
Created By: Sandra Kazandjian
When I was 11 years old my father uprooted our family and moved to Paris, France to work. That was an experience in itself for someome who had never been out of Oklahoma, but so many good things have come from that move.
Our landlady lived on the third floor of the house that we rented in a suburb of Paris. She was probably in her 50's and did not speak any English and I did not speak any French at the time. Every afternoon, she would come down and sit on the back porch and knit. I was so enthralled with how fast her fingers worked and what beautiful things she would be making. I would sit and watch her for a long time just amazed. One day she came down with an extra ball of yarn and a set of needles. She sat me down next to her and showed me how to make knit and purl stitches. Needles to say my first project was nothing to talk about, but from that time until now, I am still as excited about each new project and constantly have something going to work on.
My family has grown now and I have granddaughters of my own now who enjoy wathcing me knit. I make everything from afghans to suits and love that I am unique. I am passing on my love of knitting to younger girls who now sit and watch me, and now I am the one giving out a ball of yarn and a pair of needles.
