The Crochet Club
Created By: Virginia Kuzel
A few years ago I worked in a nursing home. I was in charge of activities and it was very challenging to come up with ideas to keep the residents stimulated. I crocheted call cords and foley bag covers and lap blankets and donated them to the residents. They became interested in crocheting and some remembered crocheting in the past. So I decided to start a crochet club. We met and the residents found out that their mind wanted to crochet but their fingers would not cooperate. They were very disappointed. I came up with an idea. We still had the club, but only I crocheted while they watched and we talked about everything under the sun. They said that watching me crochet was ALMOST as good as doing it themselves. Even though they did not work on the projects they had a feeling of self worth, which is very important for the elderly. To this day I think of them every time I crochet. Also, True Story. I would write on our Activity Board Crochet Club at 10:00. Every week one gentleman would show up. After about the third week, he shouted "I have been coming here forever and I still have not seen any crotch's, so how can you call this the Crotch Club". To funny.
