I have been knitting since I was 9 years old-53...
Created By: Carol McClain
I have been knitting since I was 9 years old-53 years. I needed to keep my hands busy, even at a young age. My mother never did any type of "busy work" so with a bit of help from a neighbor lady and a "How To' booklet, I basically taught myself. Over the years, I have given many handknitted gifts; taught numerous persons of all ages how to "keep their hands busy" as well. It has also been enough of an income to pay for yarn for the next project. I have a dish cloth pattern I can knit in the dark while traveling. If I go to one of my grandchildrens' sports events without my knitting, someone is always sure to ask if I am unwell.
Also over the years, I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. There is a commercial on TV that states" I have arthritis and you can't knit with arthritis". UNTRUE. Many days find me almost parked with pain. My hands have deformities. I take medications and use ointments and paraffin baths. I also KNIT- KNIT-KNIT. It helps keep my hands and fingers limber. I recently became a "Personal Knitter". I can also do two things at once. I knit while watching TV,reading or visiting. Knitting is truly my personal salvation.
