Rediscovering Knitting
Created By: Gail Kus

My Aunt Rena had knitting class at her house every week during the summer when I was a teenager. We would eat chili beef soup and then she would laugh while she ripped out all my knitting because she had found a mistake. I stopped knitting over 25 years ago before my children were born. I had not been an avid knitter to begin with and still had my sewing so I was not really missing anything.

Last September I suddenly got the urge to knit again and started making scarves for everyone - no one was immune - mother, mother in law, sisters, daughters, son, husband, brother in law and father. Then I started working on the aunts - now I'm working on the cousins. I also started making knit hats for the transplant patients at Children's Memorial Hospital. I haven't gotten very fancy with any patterns but just being able to sit still after a busy day at work is wonderful. I actually look forward to spending an hour knitting at night and knit during my lunch hour at work.

Your website has been an inspriation - I recently completed a felted purse and the prayer shawl. Both patterns and yarns have changed dramatically in the past 25 years and by reading your website I am a little more in touch with current trends. Thanks so much for making my new relaxation even better.
