Knitting Gifts
Created By: Renee Sevier-Monsey
I learned to knit as a child - thank you, Mildred, for letting a scrawny seven or eight-year-old watch you work and teaching me how to knit left-handed even though you were right-handed! That's gift number one - someone sharing a talent with someone else, patiently and carefully. Thank you to my sister, Patricia, for sitting in the middle of my afghan and laughing while you ripped out all the way back to where my four corners turned to five. That's gift number two - mistakes are just opportunities (although I still don't like to rip things out!). Thank you to my mother-in-law for picking up knitting again and reminding me how much I enjoy it. My dear friend Amy, thank you for turning on my inner obsessive knitter) by knitting for others at every opportunity - we CAN knit between light cues!. In memory of Matt - we lost you too soon in Iraq, but because of you I am looking for reasons to knit - babies who need blankets, children who need warm hats, soldiers who need something special created just for them. Thank you to the whole community of knitters/crocheters/crafters who make the world a warmer place by creating links between people who can help and people who need help. Together, stitch by stitch, we are making things better. I am also grateful to my daughters - Julia wants to 'needle' and has her own yarn and needles (and is making mice because of BK4K), and to Alexis, who uses the knitting needles as drumsticks but won't remove them (thank goodness) from my unfinished projects. Bless my husband for being so patient with my heart needing to create something with my own hands that makes a difference to someone else.
