The office blanket
Created By: Abby Heidebrecht
I work for the National Ovarian Cancer Association (NOCA)in Toronto. We had a staff member announce to the group that she was pregnant and was due in January. As someone who likes to knit and crochet, I thought that making a baby blanket would be fun. I made it into an office project. Selecting yarn in NOCA colors I gave each person their ball of yarn with a piece of paper 8”X8” square with the following instructions written on them; “Ladies, This piece of paper is 8” X 8”. Please keep you square to this size.” I offered quick knitting and crochet lessons to beginners and we were all on our way. This is the most amazing team of ladies to work with and each put their all their love and energy into creating their square. As they progressed I would get daily updates, mostly from the beginners that were beginning to straddle with gauge and dropped stitches. I promised them that it didn’t matter and I would use each piece as it was made. They were finally all turned in and I sewed them all together. Those that were not perfectly square went around the outside. The result moved us all to tears, especially the new mother among us that received it the day she got home from the hospital.
I would REALLY like to paste a picture of the blanket but can not. One can be provided. It is most unique with a border around all the nooks that stick out with no straight outter edge.
