Crochet Saved my Sanity!
Created By: Sharon Long
Pattern Source: other:

When I was 12 years old, I ended up in the hospital unable to walk and not even allowed out of bed due to severe pain in my back. The doctors could not figure out what was wrong (and didn't until I was 15 years old)and I spent many months flat on my back in bed. And was I bored. I grew up on a farm and was used to running around with our dogs, helping out in the barns and fields and was, in general, a very active child. Then it all stopped and I didn't know what to do with myself. One day I was watching my mother crochet a doiley, so I asked her to teach me. She was right handed and I was left handed so there was a huge learning curve. I almost gave up a couple of times. But I perservered and now I hate to put my crochet hook down!

Crocheting got me through some very long, lonely stints in bed. It is wonderful how the time flies when you have something interesting to do. And nothing beats the warm glow you get when someone says, "You made that? It's beautiful!"

A Few Years Later!
Funny how crochet is again saving my sanity through a long stint of health problems. I again, can hardly walk at all and am waiting for the doctors to fix me, and all the while,I can't put my crochet hook down. I have made many things the last few months, but some of the best has been a hat and scarf for my sister-in-law who is losing her hair to chemotherapy. All I can say is where would we/I be without crochet!!!
