How crochetting has been my salvation!

My Mother taught me to crochet during a road trip to pass the time in the car when I was just a kid. That was well over 30yrs. ago. I caught on quickly and soon began to venture further than afghans and scarves. Now, there is no pattern I can not tackle and my Mom is often in awe of what I create and how I taught myself to do so much more over the years.
Recently, I have been on medical disability, at the young age of 42. I miss teaching and have been suffering for 10 weeks. Unfortunately, the surgeon can not find where all my pain is stemming from. I've undergone many tests and out patient surgeries, and still they are baffled.
I am on so much medication that I can not get out most days. So, I am in the house more than I have ever been my entire life, and I can not do housework!
So, crochetting has become my salvation to pass the time. I have done quite a few prayer shawls and have passed them on to people I love and care for. They can not believe how beautiful they are and how meaningful the message is that I include in the prayer shawl gift.
My favorite part of my message says: Like a butterfly emerging from its cocoon, a prayer shawl is unfurled from a skein of yarn. May this prayer shawl be blessed with wings to fly over troubled waters and to glide through magical sunsets. I sew a butterfly button to the bottom of the prayer shawl as well.
Doing these prayer shawls, while I am in such pain, has made me feel blessed when my spirit seems to be getting lost. I don't know what I'd do if I didn't know how to crochet! It has truly been my salvation, my peace, my hope of relief.
I bought the wonderful book, The Prayer Shawl Ministry, that is full of patterns using the Lion Brand Yarn! They are the softest shawls you can make! I will use no other yarn than Lion Brand now! I read through the book to feel at peace, and when I create a shawl, I feel that I will be blessed.
