Knitting helped me Stop Smoking
Created By: Susan Meluso
I was only 23, but one day while working out, I had trouble catching my breath. I got really frightened. Like a lot of kids my age, I smoked because it was "cool" - but there was nothing cool about gasping for breath.
I threw out the cigarettes, but breaking the habit extended beyond just smoking. I had to also break the habit with my hands. I bought new purses, ones without the outside "smokes" pockets.
But in the evening, when I was watching T.V., my hands kept reaching for a butt. That's when I remembered my old friend, knitting. Granted, I hadn't knitted for years at that point, but if I could just keep my hands busy and my mind occupied, perhaps I'd win the battle.
I'm in my late 40s now, I've knitted a lot of yarn, finished quite a few projects, even won a couple of blue ribbons - and have remained cigarette free!
