My moms dying gift to me
Created By: Tamara Norton
My mom crocheted for as long as I can remember and it always fascinated me. She tried to teach me but all I could manage was a single chain strand and it was not even good. I tried off and on over the years to learn from friends but to no avail.
My mother got sick in August 2005 and passed away in Sept of 2005.I stayed with her those last 26 days and somehow even though my mom was sick and was bedridden I was trying to teach myself to crochet to pass time. She saw what I was doing and asked if she could help me. For the first time, it finally clicked and I have been crocheting ever since making afghans, scarves, ponchos, scrunchies, etc. That was her dying gift to me. Something that I have already begun to teach my daughter. I would not take anything for those 26 days during which she passed on her love and passion for crocheting to me as if by osmosis.
This is one gift I will take with me forever and pass it forward to anyone and everyone who wishes to learn. It relaxes me and with every stitch I make, I say a silent "thanks Mom" and I know that she hears and is smiling in heaven.
