Knitting Life
Created By: Kathy Mason

I have knitted most of my life. My mother taught me at the age of 9 yrs. I knitted throughout the years for my 4 children. I knitted many socks, sweaters and baby garments over the years.

1 1/2 yrs ago I developed an illness. Unfortunately in 4 months I had 3 major surgeries. Subsequently I became depressed and my needles laid idle.

One day I decided to pick up the needles and yarn and knit a row. At first I would only knit a row or two. Eventually 2 rows became 4, 4 became 8 and soon a preemie hat was born. That hat took 2 months to complete. I was beginning to enjoy the process of knitting once again. I knitted a box full of preemie hats but I had no where to send them. My daughter in law works in a large hospital in the city and she suggested taking them to the NICU at her hospital. They were grateful for the hats.

My health improved and I was able to stop my medication. Once again, I am never without my knitting. Socks, sweaters and yes, more preemie hats are knitted on my needles and I am enjoying my beloved knitting more now than ever before.
Knitting was an important part of my recovery and it is a very important part of my life.
