Love Blankets
Created By: Melissa Miller
I am 23 years old, and have always loved doing nice things for people. One day I decided that I had to do something different. I had done soup kitchens, planting flowers in the community, and various fundraisers for various causes. I needed to do something out of my normal range but I didn't know how, or what it was going to be.
That very same week I went to my local YWCA for training for work. As I was walking in I seen some families walking in and out of the building. Many of them didn't own anything except for the clothes on their backs. That was when it hit me! I was going to make a difference in the lives of those mothers and their children by making them beautiful blankets that they could have for a life time! Blankets that they could make new fond memories with, and all the while just know in their hearts that some one made those with 100 percent love!
As a beginner, it took me a year and a half to crochet 12 beautiful blankets with out patterns! On Janurary 5th, 2007 I walked into the YWCA with a huge box which contained all 12 blankets. As I was filing out the donation form both the lady who was standing beside me, and the lady at the desk started to cry. They said that what I had done for those families was something that they would never forget.
About two weeks later I recieved a very long heart felt Thank You letter from the YWCA which I currently have hanging proudly in it's frame.
I know what it's like not to have anything, so I like to give when ever I can. I am hoping that this will be something that I can spread on in my family for generations to come.
