Grandpa's Farm
Created By: Edith Buffington
I made the afghan for my nieces first baby. Since my niece and her husband are farmers I felt it would be a great keepsake for their child. I found the pattern in "The Great Afghan Book" in the section titled "Picture Afghans". I used Lion Brand Wool Ease as my yarn because of the large amount of color selections. The afghan consists of 600 2"X2" granny squares in 8 base colors and 15 bi-color squares. It was a very enjoyable project and one that I could take along with me and work at lunch, on breaks and waiting for appointments. It really is a great creative outlet since any picture that can be grafted can be done in this manner. I did change the original design slightly as I felt there were to many straight/sharp edges in the placement of color, so I worked in more steps and bi-colored squares to soften some of the lines. I defiantly would do another afghan using this method and I received many compliments on this project. My niece told me that she loves it because both the baby and she can lay back in a chair and cover up to take an afternoon nap. Thanks Lion Brand for making my project a success.
