my first creation!
Created By: Ami Miller Smith
Pattern Source: other:

This scarf I made for my only niece, was my very first crocheting project. I had remembered how to crochet a chain from childhood, when my grandma taught me, but I could not remember how to make a second row and continue on. But after watching the how-to video on making the single crochet stitch on this website, while crocheting along, I became very confident and ready to start my project. After about 15-20 rows I decided I had made the rows too wide for my liking (since it was for a child) plus somewhere along the line, I had miscounted and my rows/stitches weren't even. So I pulled the entire thing apart and started completely over. I am so glad I did too, because I then made the first row smaller and kept count of my stitches perfectly. When I finished, I tied in long fringes to each end. I think the scarf turned out great for my first project, and I am very proud of my accomplishment! I am now crocheting a scarf for myself, but just a little wider and in a different color. The only problem I had with making this scarf was the yarn. When making my stitches, I would often get my needle caught on threads from stitches already made that I was pulling my needle through, and had to get the threads off my needle to finish my stitch. But other than that it was pretty easy. I really like the look and feel of this yarn, so I am perfectly fine with using it again. (I used a "J" crochet needle, and lion brand's homespun yarn in mimosa color, #423.)
