I love ponchos and wraps because they can be worn with anything from jeans to a nice skirt and boots. They are perfect for fall, and winter too when you live in Arizona.
I've seen fun ponchos made from granny squares. That idea got me thinking. I really liked the idea of using squares, but I wanted something with a more modern looking. I decided to go with knit squares to achieve that trendy look and provide a little more warmth (no holes for a breeze to blow through.)
I made 16 knit squares with just knit and purl stitches that are decreased on the diagonal of the square. Then I attached strips of knit ribbing along the bottom edges and knit ribbing around the neckline.
My original design was in wool, which I felted. It looked nice but was a little too stiff. I did it a second time with the Jiffy yarn and love the result. It's super soft and drapes nicely.
